Joel D. Tauber is the President of Tauber Enterprises, LLC. He is very closely and intimately involved in Jewish philanthropy. He serves as the President of the Detroit Federation and Chairman of the United Jewish Communities and the Uited Jewish Appeal, Operation Promise, and Tel Aviv University where he sponsors a program for Ethiopians. He is also Vice Chairman of the United Jewish Appeal Young Leadership Cabinet and member of the Middle East Programs of the Aspen Institute.
Some of the highlights of Joel’s Jewish involvement include greeting Russian immigrants and participating in the momentous occasion when 12,000 Ethiopians arrived in Israel and being present at the signing of a peace accord between Palestinians, Israel and Jordan.
Aside from his Jewish involvement, Mr. Tauber is a former officer of United Way Community Services and the Greater Detroit Interfaith Round Table of Christians, Jews and Muslims. At the University of Michigan he created the Tauber Institute for Global Operations and is active in the Law School, Athletic Department and as a founding member of the President’s Advisory Committee and is the Vice Chairman of their $3 billion compaighn to save the Detroit Zoo.
He is also quite active in local, national and international politics.
Joel received his B.A., M.B.A, and law degree from the University of Michigan and a Honorary Doctorate from Tel Aviv University. He is a business executie whose companies currently process scrap materials from the stainless steel industry, supplies plastic parts to the cosmetic industry and in the past was a plastic and steel supplier to the aut and computer industries. In Israel, Mr. Tauber set up a plastic water container manufactuing join venture with Kibbutz Yakum and has an interest in various hi-tech enterprises through venture capital funds in Israel. He was a National Master Entrepreneur of the year in 1990 and Michigan’s Sociall Responsible Entrepreneur of the year in 1994.
He is married with three children, six granddaughters and three grandsons, all of who are his pride and joy.
