A. Huda Farouki is a prominent international business leader well-respected for his accomplishments in a wide variety of business, educational and cultural endeavors.
Mr. Farouki is the founder, chairman and/or chief executive officer of several major successful corporations specializing in international finance, trade, contracting, logistics and procurement in Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, Southeast Asia and the Far East. Some of these corporations include Hii Finance Corp., Financial Instrumental & Investment Corporation (FIIC), ANHAM FZCO, VTEL Holdings Ltd. and Nour USA, Ltd. He has been involved in business in the United States for more than 35 years. He is the recipient of numerous awards for excellence in business, including the “E” Award for Excellence in Exporting conferred by the President of the United States, the Washington International Trade Association’s Outstanding Achievement in International Trade Award, and the Entrepreneur of the Year Award selected by the Washington Business Journal/Peat Marwick.
Mr. Farouki’s philanthropic and cultural interests are numerous. He has founded and funded the establishment of a ground-breaking educational institution: the Afghanistan Technical Vocational Institute (ATVI), which is the premier, co-educational training facility in Afghanistan designed to empower both men and women with the knowledge, skills and training necessary to become highly productive members of their society. ATVI has three campuses in Afghanistan and graduates over 1600 students per scholastic year. Mr. Farouki has been involved in several other educational initiatives including the King’s Academy, a four-year secondary school located in Amman, Jordan. In addition, Mr. Farouki is well-known for his active participation in a variety of charitable endeavors and institutions, including the Georgetown University’s Center for Contemporary Arab Studies, the Clinton Global Initiative, the Aspen Institute, the Kennedy Center International Committee on the Arts, the Center for Strategic & International Studies and the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars.
Mr. Farouki’s business, philanthropic and cultural activities all have been guided by a common set of core principles. He knows that those most successful in life are those who employ every native gift and every opportunity presented to perfect their ability to think, to judge and to lead. He believes it is the duty of every person not only to hunger for more and better information for him or herself, but to do everything possible to educate those who follow so they may share in the prosperity common to the well-educated. He recognizes that the words “peace and prosperity” go hand-in-hand. In order to make peace a reality, we must first use the success of our enterprise to serve others and introduce them to the well-known pathways to prosperity.
Mr. Farouki was educated in England and the United States. He is a graduate of George Washington University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (1966) and a Master of Science degree in Engineering Administration (1973).
